At Fairhaven, we open our hearts and doors to all, and we welcome all people who seek to grow in God’s grace and love. Regardless of your race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, relationship status or background, God loves you and so do we.
— Fairhaven's welcome statement

A Beacon to South Pittsburgh…

Fairhaven UMC is a well-known landmark for commuters across the South Hills, standing right on busy Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard), just north of the intersection with Route 88. Founded when Pittsburgh’s Overbrook neighborhood was still called Fairhaven and it was a little coal-mining town, Fairhaven UMC still stands out, as a country church in the middle of the city whose marquee usually bears some witty wisdom for those stuck in rush hour traffic. It’s a church that is especially welcoming to newcomers, and worship services are filled with a sense of joy and celebration.

Over the past few years, Fairhaven has been extremely active in addiction recovery ministry (hosting NA as well as Prevention Point Pittsburgh’s harm reduction work), and sees this as an important part of its mission. Additionally, the church hosts a food pantry and clothing closet behind the building, open to all in need 24/7 and stocked both by members of the church and generous neighbors. Fairhaven is also committed to Bible study, hosting an open group online at 7pm on Wednesdays. This group draws from multiple Partnership churches and beyond.

You’re invited to to join us Sunday mornings at 9:30, or at Bible study!

Additionally, Fairhaven hosts a free community dinner coordinated by Grow Living Stones at 4:30pm on the last Sunday of each month.

There is a parking lot around back, and can be accessed from St. Norbert Street north of the church or Underwood Street just past Leopardi Auto Sales. The church is handicap accessible, with a lift to the upstairs sanctuary.

Fairhaven is a Lighthouse congregation.

That means we are committed to offering a hospitable, warm church home to United Methodists whose congregations have disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church or closed, but who wish to remain United Methodist. You are welcome at Fairhaven.
